A renovation of an existing house to accommodate client’s requirements. The existing structure, which was also used for residential purposes did not provided the required spaciousness for the family. Keeping in mind to keep structural elements as much as possible, the house has been re-planned to achieve a livable and functional den for the busy urban family. The house further accommodated a terrace area which allowed gatherings.
The structure was oriented facing west which spontaneously heat up the interior during the afternoons. To reduce this, architect implemented the strategy of louvered bay windows, which will provide the shade while allowing a good flow of air.
Further, passive strategies aiming reduction of energy usage has been implemented to the house: cross ventilation, natural light harvesting through openings facing, directions other than west, etc. The architectural language casted a modern design which blends seamlessly within the semi-urban context.
